Zula Children Uganda was founded with a heartfelt mission: to uplift and empower vulnerable children and
orphans in Greater Masaka. Our journey began with the personal experiences of our founder, Nabukenya Zulaika,
who lost both of her parents to HIV/AIDS at the tender age of 10. Growing up as an orphan, Zulaika faced immense
challenges, but her resilience and determination to create a better future for herself and others became
the driving force behind our organization.
Recognizing the struggles faced by many children in her community, Zulaika vowed to make a difference.
She witnessed firsthand the devastating impact of poverty, lack of education, and health issues
on the lives of young people. With a deep passion for helping others, she began her journey
to support orphans and vulnerable children,
collaborating with local organizations, churches, and community members.
Despite being a school dropout, Zulaika took the initiative to learn valuable skills, such as
hair plaiting, which allowed her to earn a modest living. This experience inspired her to empower
other youth by sharing her skills and knowledge. In 2020, Zula Children Uganda was officially established,
aiming to provide practical training, educational
resources, and essential support to children aged 4 to 20 years.
1. Education: Ensuring that every child has access to quality education and the necessary resources to succeed academically.
2. Health: Promoting health awareness and facilitating access to healthcare services, particularly for those affected by HIV/AIDS.
3. Skills Development: Providing vocational training to empower youth and help them secure sustainable livelihoods.
4. Basic Needs: Addressing the fundamental needs of vulnerable children by providing food, clothing, and shelter.
Since our inception, we have made significant strides in improving the lives of countless children.
Our programs have equipped young girls with skills that have enabled them to find employment in reputable
salons, while our community outreach initiatives have raised awareness about the importance of supporting
vulnerable youth.
As we continue to grow, our commitment to creating a brighter future for the children of Greater Masaka
remains unwavering. With the support of generous donors, volunteers, and community partners,
we are determined to break the cycle of poverty and empower the next generation to thrive.
On 23 March 2026, we visited a small group of children in Kida, Masaka, and my heart was deeply moved by what I saw. When I shared their story, Madam Gloria was so touched that she immediately decided to help. She brought provisions — nourishing food, books to open new worlds, sugar and cooking oil for daily meals, clothes to keep them warm, pens and pencils for learning, and shoes to protect their little feet.
These children attend school in Masaka, but many of them have been living in conditions that make childhood hard — without enough food, clean clothes, or simple comforts. Still, their bright eyes and hopeful smiles reminded me that hope can survive even the toughest circumstances. With kindness and support from people like Madam Gloria and friends of Zula Children Uganda, we believe their lives can change.
